Gabriel Dropout Review

Image
Gabriel.  One of God's top women.  But what if she was a teenaged manga girl instead?  Yeah...  It's Gabriel Dropout. Gabriel Dropout is about...Gabriel, duh?  If only it were that simple.  Before descending to Earth, Gabriel was a promising young angel, destined for greatness.  Then, she went to Earth and corrupted by human luxuries.  Now she's content to stay at home wearing no bottoms, playing videogames and scratching her ass. Of course, she has a best friend called Vignette who won't let her do that.  She always complains about how lazy Gabriel and how she's a failure as an angel.  The catch is (you knew it was coming) that Vignette is a demon.  Yes, you read right.  A demon is trying to teach an angel how to be more angelic.  To paraphrase a line Gabriel said, Vignette is a demon who's not demonic. Gabriel also has two more "friends".  There's Raphael (not the Ninja Turtle) who is a mischief-maker and fellow angel.  Then, there is..

Napping Princess Movie Review

Image
A futuristic machine world.  A near-future Japan.  A princess/pirate girl.  An ordinary Japanese schoolgirl.  A doll that's alive.  A doll that's just a doll.  A sentient motorcycle and...a sentient motorcycle.  It's a tale of two worlds.  This is Napping Princess. Napping Princess is the tale of two girls.  Ancient Heart is the princess of Heartland, a machine-heavy fantasy world where people live only to build machines.  Kokone Morikawa is a seemingly average schoolgirl living with her mechanic father in Japan.  Ancien is young girl who can use magic to bring machines to life and has moves that put Mirrors Edge's Faith to shame.  Kokone can...wear a miniskirt. Napping Princess is the story of Princess Ancien... ...and schoolgirl Kokone. Anyway, these two girls are connected.  Every time Kokone goes to sleep, she becomes Ancien (or that's what she initially thinks).  It's also worth noting that almost everyone in Kokone's world has a count

Pocky

Image
So you're sitting there, about to watch an anime or read a manga, but it seems like something is missing.  You almost feel like an otaku, but you feel like the experience isn't complete.  Well, if you don't have any Pocky on you, you're right. A long, thin cookie/cracker-type thing cover in chocolate, Pocky is basically like crack for anime watchers.  Sweet and crunchy, you'll always reach for them.  Then, before you know it, they're all gone.  They go especially well with slice-of-life or comedy anime like K-on, Azumanga Daioh, and Lucky Star. That gleam you see is a sign that these things were sent from Heaven. I first found out about these things while watching an episode of Please Teacher or Please Twins (I forget which one).  Mizuho Kazami (the teacher) was eating them.  I thought, "those look good.  I wonder if we have those here in America."  One trip to the supermarket later, there they were in the Asian food section. They did not

Anime Hotties: Akame

Image
Cold.  Merciless.  Deadly.  Hungry.  Awkward.  All of these words can be used to describe her.  However, people tend to leave out one word when discussing her.  Hot.  Her name is Akame. Akame is the titular (though not the main) character in Akame ga Kill.  She walks around an outfit that looks like a cross between schoolgirl and samurai.  Naturally, she need to wield a poisonous katana that kills in one hit, whether it be a thrust through the heart or a prick of a finger.  As a result of this, fights between Akame and an opponent tend to be short.  Every kill is performed with all the coldness of a early Winter night. Even Tatsumi gets no mercy when Akame is on the job.  As character who wields a sword, she has her fair share of cool-looking moments... Don't let the beauty of it fool you.  This is a deadly attack. And unintentionally sexy moments. Uh...did you forget something, Akame? Her long black hair seems to resemble a jellyfish.  Perhaps it's

Anime Cuties: The Girls Of Himouto! Umaru-chan

Image
Himouto! Umaru-chan is an okay anime series with a decent amount of laugh and wacky characters.  Heck, some of them are even kind of cute.  In particular, you have the hot best friend, the creepy admirer, and the overconfident rival.  Respectively, Nina Ebina, Kirie Motoba, and Sylphynford Tachibana. Umaru and friends enjoy a day at the beach. Nana Ebina is the hot best friend.  She's content to live in Umaru's shadow and tries not to draw attention to herself.  She's a hick trying (successfully) to hide her country accent.  One trying she can't hide, however, is her DOA-caliber chest.  Her head tends to smoke when she's nervous, particularly when she's around Taihei. Nana's head smokes a lot... ...and please don't let her get near Taihei. Nana hides her accent well...until she eats good food. The difference between Nana and the others isn't hard to see here. Kirie Motoba is the creepy admirer.  She's an outsider wh
