A Silent Voice Review

Some people are assholes.  That's a fact that can't be denied.  Do assholes ever get what they deserve?  They do in the manga A Silent Voice.  Let's continue.


Shoya Ishida is the aforementioned asshole.  At the start of the manga, he's a bored kid who will do anything for excitement, including jumping off bridges into rivers.  This boredom leads him down the path to become a bully.  Enter Shoko Nishimiya.

Shoko is a deaf girl who just wants a normal school life.  What she gets instead is bullied by everyone in her classroom.  Even the teacher talks down about her, though not to her face.  Naturally, Shoya wants to get in on the action.  And does he ever.

Shoya goes out of his way to make Shoko's life a living hell.  He yells in her ears, throws her notebook in a pond, and rips out her hearing aids, among other things.  Crap hits the fan when the principal comes storming in angry, wondering who's responsible for this abuse.  In a vicious bout with karma, Shoya gets thrown under the bus by his classmates and the teacher, as everyone points to him as Shoko's one and only bully.

 Suddenly, he becomes the one who gets bullied.  His "friends" give him an ass-whuppin' and even throw him off a third-floor balcony, among other things.  Each incident makes him hate Shoko more and more until he and Shoko get into a fight (an actual fistfight), which results in her transfering to another school.

The manga really gets started when he gets to high school, where he is an antisocial outcast.  From there, it turns into a story redemption, friendship, and love.  The manga introduces new characters, reintroduces old characters, and follows Shoya as he tries to make up for ruining Shoko's life in elementary school.

In the end, A Silent Voice is about an asshole trying to redeem himself to a girl he did dirty.  There's plenty of zany characters and laughs.  It certainly was more than I was expecting.  Check it out.

Anime Hotties: Mayumi Nishikino

Kawai Complex is a hilarious anime with a few cute girls.  Introducing Mayumi Nishikino, Kawai Complex's washed-up veteran of love. Mayumi Nishikino, a full-fledged working woman who can't find love. Mayumi is a total bitch.  She's frustrated by her inability to find love, jealous when others find it, and happy when others break up.  It's pathetic, really. It doesn't take much to make her angry. It doesn't matter whether you're nine-years old or pushing thirty like her, if you piss her off, you'll here about it...or feel it. This is what happens when you make her angry. Anime Hotties: Yaeko Minegasaki

Do you like young professional women?  Do you like women with purple hair?  Do you like Food Wars, but can't find an adult female to drool over?  Well, guess what?  She exists.  Her name is Yaeko Minegasaki. Yaeko Minegasaki isn't that hard to miss.  She's the first REAL threat Soma Yukihira faces in his quest to become a top-class chef.  She an urban planner and, as such, she's the devil. Soma is not impressed. She's a cool, mature woman.  She knows she's sexy and she's not afraid to use what she's got to get what she wants. A confident Minegasaki attempting to turn on the charm.
