Jellyfish Princess Anime Review

It's a epic tale about a girl with a jellyfish obsession, a drag queen, and a bunch of ugly women.  Jellyfish Princess has it all.  Let's take a look.

Tsukimi Kuroshita is the jellyfish-obsessed protagonist of this story.  Ever since a trip to the aquarium as a kid, jellyfish have been her thing.  She has a room full of jellyfish drawings and actually schools a pet shop worker on how to properly take care of them, warning him that one type of jellyfish will die because it's in the same tank as another kind.  Enter the drag queen.

This is Tsukimi and...
...she loves jellyfish.
Kuranosuke Koibuchi is said drag queen who witnesses Tsukimi harassing the worker.  He offers to buy the jellyfish for her so it can...be in a tank and look cute.  Well, it does inspire Tsukimi, but don't expect it to climb out of the tank and start eating people.

Kuranosuke in drag.
He actually looks MORE feminine out of drag.
But I don't want to look like a girl!
Tsukimi lives with some of the ugliest women in the history of anime.  Just...ugh.  Considering the type of anime this is, their looks are irrelevant.  Just letting you know before you dive in, there is no eye candy here...almost.  There is a moderately hot villainess and Tsukimi herself has (often unfulfilled) potential, but there's no one drool-worthy here unless ugly chicks or decent-looking men are your thing.

Look at all these ugly women.
Thank goodness the villainess is kind of hot.
Tsukimi lives up to her potential.
The characters are interesting nonetheless.  You have a Three Kingdoms dork, a chick with an afro, a quiet girl, a seamstress, a family of politicians, an old man who seems attracted to his crossdressing nephew, a man who likes cleaning luxury cars, a psychotic property developer, a jellyfish that explains the world view, and a woman who never physically shows up.  Yep.  There's something for everyone.

If you see this man, hide your kids.
Yep.  This is a woman.
This jellyfish is in the loop.
Kuranosuke has a particularly disturbing story.  I won't ruin it here, but I will say it's pretty messed up.  They do a decent job of explaining exactly why he's a drag queen.

Kuranosuke as a child with his mother.
Moving beyond the characters, there's a lot going on.  Tsukimi wants to look like a jellyfish for some reason, the gang with fight to keep their home, Kuranosuke tries to pass himself off as a girl, there's a fashion show, and even a love rectangle.  It's a little disjointed in its execution, but it's not boring.  You'll be laughing most of the time.

There enough of this to satisfy your hunger for humor.
Jellyfish Princess is a funny anime.  Loaded with laughs and unfulfilled romances, it entertains.  It's nice to see a romantic comedy with women doing the bumbling and stumbling for a change.  Check it out.
