Food Wars Anime Review

Food, fanservice, and funniness.  That is what Food Wars is all about.  It's an awesome manga with great visuals.  So how does the anime stack up?  Grab a plate and let's dig in.


Just like the manga, this anime is about Soma Yukihira in his quest to become a top-tier chef.  The anime is almost a total copy of the manga.  No big detours, not censored too heavily, and virtually no filler (yet).  The characters and, most importantly, the food all come to life.

Naturally, with the food come the food orgasms and with the food orgasms comes fanservice.  Everything you saw in the manga is only bolstered in anime form.  If you liked it in the manga, you'll love it here.  There's just something about seeing AND hearing this stuff in action that pushes it to another level.  On the other hand, if you didn't like it in the manga, you'll think it's excessive in the anime.  It does, however, keep the two-way nature of the fanservice, so there's something for both guys and girls alike.

The same thing applies to the funny stuff and the cute stuff, as well.  Stuff that's funny is a little funnier.  Stuff that's cute is a little cuter.

I will say that some of the characters sound off.  Soma's voice seems too deep.  Erina sound like an airhead rather than a snob.  I was expecting Megumi to sound like a hick, but she doesn't.  It's nothing you can't adjust to (considering it didn't exist before) and other voices sound pretty good.

In the end, the anime hit like a Soma beef bowl.  That's to say, I couldn't stop watching.  Just like with the manga, I couldn't make myself stop.  It may be a little too fanservicey at times (somehow more so than the manga) and that some may or may not like that.  If you're a fan of the manga, don't miss it.  If you're a casual anime watcher, check it out.

Anime Hotties: Mayumi Nishikino

Kawai Complex is a hilarious anime with a few cute girls.  Introducing Mayumi Nishikino, Kawai Complex's washed-up veteran of love. Mayumi Nishikino, a full-fledged working woman who can't find love. Mayumi is a total bitch.  She's frustrated by her inability to find love, jealous when others find it, and happy when others break up.  It's pathetic, really. It doesn't take much to make her angry. It doesn't matter whether you're nine-years old or pushing thirty like her, if you piss her off, you'll here about it...or feel it. This is what happens when you make her angry. Anime Hotties: Yaeko Minegasaki

Do you like young professional women?  Do you like women with purple hair?  Do you like Food Wars, but can't find an adult female to drool over?  Well, guess what?  She exists.  Her name is Yaeko Minegasaki. Yaeko Minegasaki isn't that hard to miss.  She's the first REAL threat Soma Yukihira faces in his quest to become a top-class chef.  She an urban planner and, as such, she's the devil. Soma is not impressed. She's a cool, mature woman.  She knows she's sexy and she's not afraid to use what she's got to get what she wants. A confident Minegasaki attempting to turn on the charm.
