Nisekoi Review
Huragh! That's the sound of me vomiting. Why? Because this manga makes me want to vomit every time I attempt to read it. Allow me to explain. This is Nisekoi.
Nisekoi follows a boy called Raku as he attempts to find the love of his life. How will he do that? By find a person who has the key to the heart-shaped locket he wears around his neck.
The main female (and likely the girl he'll wind up with) is called Chitoge. As you'd expect from any bad romantic comedy (as this series claims to be), she's a complete bitch. She hurls verbal abuse a Raku, while Raku fights back with...nothing. To be clear, he makes attempts to stand up to her, but he tries to craft his words carefully with she spews pure venom. In other words, these exchanges are very lopsided.
To make matters worse, he's always expected to come to her aid when she's crying or whatever. This is bullshit because it rewards Chitoge for being a bitch, as if to say, "It's okay. You just keep on being a bitch." She almost never gets her just desserts.
I say almost, because there was a scene in a hot spring or bathhouse where he's trying to hide underwater and escape and she winds up slipping and falling into the water. The end result is that she wound up with her lips pressed against his bare butt. Yes, she literally kissed his ass. I laughed like hell and said, "Justice."
The manga also commits the grave sin of going on too long. There was a part volume 7 or 8 (about where I tuned out) they made it look like the manga was going to end in ten volumes or less. Then, in that same issue, they swerve the complete opposite way and seventeen or eighteen issues later, it's still going on. WTF? Is this a manga or a torture device.
As you might have guess, I don't like this manga. A completely unlikeable heroine and one-sided exchanges does not a good rom-com make. The main characters simply don't come off as equals. The only time I actually laughed was when Chitoge kissed Raju butt in the hot spring. I spent the rest of the time hoping Chitoge would get hit and killed by a train. Pass on this one.
