Amagi Brilliant Park Anime Review

How would you feel about running an amusement park?  How about dating a hot girl?  Now imagine meeting that hot girl, but instead of dating you, she draws a gun on you and coerces you into running the amusement park.  That is the wacky world of Amagi Brilliant Park.

Amagi Brilliant Park is a comedy that follow a boy called Seiya Kanie, a former child star.  This, however is not important, because his being a child star never is a factor.  That being said, he's not some worthless protagonist.  As it turns out, he has good management skills.

Seiya Kanie, our protagonist.
Moving on.  The first thing you see when the anime starts is Kanie staring down the barrel of a gun being held by the aformentioned hot girl, Isuzu Sento.  Not long afterwards, he's taken the a theme park, called Amagi Brilliant Park.  Once there, he discovers it's a lifeless shithole with almost no customers.  As you might guess, the park is on the verge of closing.  If they can't get 250,000 customers in three months, it will do just that.  Ordinarily this wouldn't be a problem.  The park close, just find another job, right?  But, naturally there's a catch.  Why else would he be brought to the park at gunpoint for the purpose of running it?

This is NOT how you ask for a favor.
Welcome to the most depressing theme park on Earth.
The employees (and inhabitants) of the park come from another world called Maple Land and need magic energy to live.  This magic energy is generated from places where people are happy and feeling good, such as a theme park.  In other words, if the park closes, the employees/inhabitants may die.

Speaking of the inhabitants, they are quite a colorful cast.  Mascots that drink and fight, hot girls, digletts, a dragon, and a meathead (his head is actually a piece of meat), among others live and work in the particular.  Also among the them is a giant, transexual, pervert cat (you read right).  There are a few human workers, such as a pro-wrestling security guard and an Indiana Jones knock-off, who work there.

The mascots are going to feel this later.

As a fire fairy, she's literally a hot chick.
You thought I was lying about the meathead, didn't you?
If it looks and sounds like a girl, it must be a guy.
Kanie, Sento, and the others will have plenty of misadventures while attempting to save the park.  They'll balance budgets, fight pirate walruses, attempt to find lost treasures, pretend to be Kanie at school, and other things.  They will also tell some dirty jokes in the process.

A spike pit won't stop these lunatics.
Yes, there IS a fair share of fan service.
The humor is surprisingly adult, especially when the mascot enter the picture.  You may laugh your butt off at times.  By the way, the mascots aren't wearing costumes.  Those are their actual bodies.

The mascots getting together for a drink after taking some ass whuppins from kids.
Amagi Brillian Park is a decent anime with some good jokes.  There aren't a lot of irritating characters.  The pace feels good, but that's probably because I haven't read any kind of manga version there may be.  Unlike most short amine (it's fourteen episodes) it doesn't feel rushed or like they left anything out.  It's worth watching.  Check it out.
