Dragons Rioting

Upon starting to read Dragons Rioting, I immediately thought of Ikkitousen.  Who wouldn't?  There are a lot of similarities between the two series'.  Brutal battles between hot girls and lots of fan service?  Check.  A poor retelling of Romance of Three Kingdom?  Check.  A lame male protagonist who seemingly serves no purpose?  Check.

Well, to be fair, the afformentioned male protagonist is more interesting than the guy from Ikkitousen.  This is mainly because of his character flaw and the situation he finds himself in.  Rintaro apparently has a medical condition that makes contact with females potentially fatal for him.  If that's not enough, he finds himself accidentally going to an all-girls school.  Yes, it's stupid, but the creators tried something original, so it gets points for that.

Anyway, what does Rintaro do, knowing that death could be an accidental bump away?  Transfer out?  Of course not.  That would mean he had at least two working brain cells, effectively ending the manga.  He stays so he can "deal with his condition", though readers know it's because he fell in love with one of the girls in a romance that may or may not be explored one day.  Ladies and gentlemen, that is dung.

Some of the interactions between Rintaro and the girls are funny.  Also, some of Rintaro's fighting techniques are actually pretty cool.  For example, there's a scene where two girls are fighting, so he separartes them by getting between them, hitting the ground, and turning the ground into walls so they can't get to each other.  It shows how powerful he really is and that he could potentially be a badass.

Besides having a more interesting protagonists than Ikkitousen, it also has two-way fan service.  Severals time, Rintaro winds up fighting naked or nearly naked, much to the dismay of the obvious love interest.  So if you a girl or gay, there's something in there for you, too.

Speaking of fan service, there are cute girls lurking about.  There's no one near Ryofu's level or quite at Kanu's level in terms hotness, but a few outdo the overrated Hakafu.  For the most part, this cast of girls can hold their own against anyone not named Ryofu in terms of looks.

On its surface, Dragons Rioting looks like an Ikkitousen clone.  The protagonist and a slightly more interesting story among other things potentially make it better.  If you don't mind a little fan service, check this out.  Its premise sounds stupid, but it's quite entertaining.
