My Hero Academia Review

Image
Imagine a city where superheroes are the norm.  They aren't just vigilantes who can do what the police can't.  No, in this being a superhero is an actual occupation, complete with paychecks, benefits, and even unions.  It's time for a look at My Hero Academia. As you read earlier, My Hero Academia is a different take on the superhero genre.  As a real job, kids all over the city look forward to the day when they themselves can become heroes.  However, in order to become a hero, one needs a "quirk", this world's term for superpowers.  Those without quirks have no chance to become heroes.  Apparently, the creators of this series have never heard of Batman or the Punisher, but I digress. The main character and crybaby, Izuku Midoriya, is unfortunately one of those kids who wasn't born with a quirk.  Ordinarily, such individuals would give up on their superhero dreams, but not him.  He believes that if he just tries hard enough, he can still be one.  H

Citrus Review

For Yuzu Aihara, life at an all-girls school is great.  She makes lots of friends, eats good food, the teachers don't suck, and she falls in love with her stepsister...huh?  What?  Yep.  It's one of those kind of manga.  This is Citrus. When the manga starts, Yuzu Aihara is an outcast.  Her first day at school, she starts off completely on the wrong foot.  She violates the dress code, violates the makeup code, violates the hair code, and brings her cellphone, violating yet another rule.  This immediately puts her on the bad side of Mei, the student council president.  How does Mei show her displeasure?  By pretending to seduce Yuzu so she can take her phone.  Yeah...that makes sense. Eventually, Yuzu gets home only to find out the her mother married Mei's father which makes Mei her stepsister.  From then on, craziness reigns.  She sees Mei kissing a teacher and outs them, forcing the teacher to leave the school.  Then, she gets kissed by Mei which causes her to fall

Anime Hotties: Mayumi Nishikino

Image
Kawai Complex is a hilarious anime with a few cute girls.  Introducing Mayumi Nishikino, Kawai Complex's washed-up veteran of love. Mayumi Nishikino, a full-fledged working woman who can't find love. Mayumi is a total bitch.  She's frustrated by her inability to find love, jealous when others find it, and happy when others break up.  It's pathetic, really. It doesn't take much to make her angry. It doesn't matter whether you're nine-years old or pushing thirty like her, if you piss her off, you'll here about it...or feel it. This is what happens when you make her angry. Mayumi and her rival, Sayaka, having a friendly quarrel. Mayumi lives to do four things:  Be depressed, drink, fight, and make others miserable. Drinking... ...fighting... ...and making others miserable. In the end she's kind of hot.  She's a  good source of fanservice, that's for sure.  She's perfect if you like older women (if

Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior Anime Review

What would you do if you were a high school boy renting a room in a house full of losers and weirdos?  You can at last live that experience in this anime.  This is Kawai Complex. This title screen only shows a fraction of the craziness in this anime. Kawai Complex follows Kazunari Usa through daily life as he lives with these nutcases.  What kind of characters will Usa live with?  An old lady, a stalker pervert, a 30-year (?) old harpy, a college student who wears too much makeup, and an antisocial girl who he also happens to go to school with and also happens to have a crush on.  Yep, they are a colorful cast and Usa fits right in. Kazunari Usa, the protagonist. Throughout the anime, Usa is fawning over the antisocial girl, who is rarely seen without a book in her hand.  Every episode, he's wondering how he can get closer to her.  It's not one-sided either.  The girl, Ritsu Kawai, likes him as well, but her nature as a loner won't let her open because she e

Log Horizon Anime Review

People getting trapped in videogame.  It seems to be a genre of its own.  I like to call it the .Hack genre because the .Hack series was my first exposure to this type of story, hence I always though .Hack was the originator of it.  I'm pretty sure I'm wrong about this, but .Hack spawned a number of clones, including Real Account, Sword Art Online, and the subject of this post, Log Horizon. Log Horizon follows a character called Shirou, whom some call the Villain In Glasses.  First things first.  Shirou is cool.  Unlike most main characters in these type of anime, Shirou is a strategist.  He's isn't a whiny crybaby or an overpowered douchebag.  No, Shirou is a thinker, planner, and master manipulator.  He does things in the background and behind the backs of others, showing just enough of his strategy to intrigue while not revealing too much. Shirou, the Villain in Glasses and protagonist of this series. That says, he seems to be genuinely concerned about
